Welcome to the Nashville Chapter of Amigos de las Américas.
You have come to the right place! We have an excellent program that sends young adults to conduct service projects in Latin America.
Every year a select group
of volunteers spends six to eight weeks in a host country working on
various community and public health projects.
Amigos volunteers live and work each summer in Costa
Rica, the Dominican Republic, Ecuador, Honduras, Mexico, Nicaragua,
Panama, Paraguay, and Uruguay.
An Amigos experience is the perfect combination of language immersion
through home stays, leadership development through the conception,
implementation and completion of community based initiatives, and an
opportunity for cross-cultural understanding.
Throughout the school year our chapter prepares its volunteers for
their Latin America experiences with training in team building,
cross-cultural sensitivity, networking, personal health &
safety, and the various cultures of Latin America. Each June, our
chapter volunteers begin their adventure in their assigned
countries by joining other volunteers from Amigos
chapters throughout the United States. Volunteers are placed, two to
four per community, in rural or semi-rural communities.
Life-long friendships have been built between AMIGOS volunteers and
their adopted communities. Thousands of young people have learned
invaluable lessons about cultural understanding, community service, and
their own ability to lead.
